Today’s readings invite us to reflect on the vital choice of where we place our trust—as we face life’s uncertainties, do we rely on human strength, or do we rest in the everlasting love of the Lord? Our Scriptures guide us on this journey, encouraging us to delight in God’s law and embrace the hope of resurrection. The prophet Jeremiah contrasts two ways of life. He warns, “Cursed is the man who trusts in man…” and promises blessing to the one who trusts in the Lord. This passage reminds us that placing our confidence in worldly powers leads to instability, like a shrub in a barren land. In contrast, those who trust in the Lord are compared to a tree planted by water, flourishing even in the most challenging seasons. This psalm paints a vivid picture of blessedness. The righteous, who delight in the law of the Lord and meditate on it day and night, are likened to a tree planted by streams of water. Their life is marked by fruitfulness and stability. Conversely, the wicked are like chaff that the wind blows away. Paul reminds us of the core of our faith: the Gospel of Christ. He recounts the transformative power of Jesus’ death and resurrection, which not only redeems us but also assures us of victory over death. If Christ were not raised, our faith would be in vain; yet, His resurrection confirms that God’s promise of eternal life is true. In His sermon on the plain, Jesus pronounces blessings on those who are poor, hungry, and weeping—promising that the Kingdom of God belongs to them. He contrasts these blessings with woes for those who find security in wealth and comfort. Jesus calls us to reorient our values, showing that true prosperity is found not in material abundance, but in our openness to God’s mercy and grace. Reflection Questions for the Week: Where Do I Place My Trust? In what areas of my life do I rely on human strength, and how can I shift my focus to trust more fully in the Lord? Delighting in God’s Word: How can I incorporate regular meditation on Scripture into my daily routine, so that I may be like the tree planted by streams of water? Living the Beatitudes: What does it mean to live as someone who is truly blessed by God, as described in the Gospel of Luke? How can I align my actions and priorities with these values? Resurrection Hope: How does the reality of Christ’s resurrection inspire hope in my life? In what ways can I let that hope influence my responses to challenges and uncertainties? Witnessing to God’s Kingdom: How can I actively share the hope and love of Christ with those around me, especially in a world that often values worldly security over spiritual richness? May these readings guide your heart this week, leading you to a deeper trust in the Lord and a renewed commitment to live out the hope of the resurrection. Let us together strive to be anchored in His love, allowing His word to transform us and light our path. In Christ’s love, Fr. Matt
