This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It’s a day that draws our attention to the very heart of our Catholic faith: the real and living presence of Jesus in the Eucharist.
In today’s Gospel (Mark 14:12–16, 22–26), we are brought back to the Upper Room. Jesus takes bread and wine and declares, “This is my Body… This is my Blood.” These are not poetic symbols or metaphors. They are His very self, poured out for us in love. And through the Eucharist, Christ continues to be present—quietly and humbly—on our altars, in our tabernacles, and in our hearts.
Every time we receive Holy Communion, we are offered not only grace, but a profound invitation: to become what we receive. The Eucharist is not meant to remain confined to the walls of the church—it is meant to transform how we live, love, forgive, and serve in our everyday lives.
In the spirit of this feast, I’m pleased to share that beginning next Sunday, we will begin collecting gently used Bibles for the clients served by Straight and Narrow in Paterson. Many of those in recovery or rebuilding their lives are yearning for hope, for comfort, and for the Word of God. If you have a Bible in good condition to donate, you may place it in the collection box located in the church vestibule.
Let us be mindful this week of the tremendous gift we have in the Eucharist, and let that gift lead us to love more generously.
Weekly Reflection Questions:
“Jesus has made Himself the Bread of Life to give us life. Night and day, He is there. If you really want to grow in love, come back to the Eucharist.”
— St. Teresa of Calcutta
A Prayer for Vocations
Lord Jesus Christ,
truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist,
we thank You for the gift of Your Body and Blood.
From this sacred mystery,
You call men and women to follow You as priests, deacons,
and religious brothers and sisters.
Raise up among us generous hearts,
willing to leave all behind to serve Your Church.
Grant them courage, wisdom, and joy in their response.
Help families to be holy ground
where vocations are nurtured and supported.
May we, Your people, always cherish the priesthood and religious life,
and encourage those You are calling.
Jesus, Bread of Life, strengthen all those discerning Your call.
Mary, Mother of the Eucharist, pray for us.
Amen.
In Christ,
Fr. Matt
