Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul, Apostles
Readings: Acts 12:1–11, Psalm 34, 2 Timothy 4:6–8, 17–18, Matthew 16:13–19
Dear Parish Family,
This Sunday, we celebrate the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul—two towering figures in the early Church, two very different men with one shared mission: to preach Christ crucified and risen.
Saint Peter, the humble fisherman, was called to be the rock upon which Jesus would build His Church. In today’s Gospel, we hear that powerful moment of Peter’s confession: “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus responds not just with affirmation, but with entrustment: “You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church.”What a mystery of grace! The same Peter who would later deny Jesus three times becomes the steadfast shepherd of Christ’s flock.
Saint Paul, on the other hand, was a persecutor turned apostle—one whose zeal for the Gospel led him across borders, cultures, and even to prison. In the second reading, he writes: “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” His words echo with courage and perseverance, a reminder that following Christ may cost us everything, but it will never leave us empty.
What binds these two men together is not perfection, but transformation. God took their weaknesses, their flaws, their pasts—and turned them into instruments of grace. That same God is at work in us today.
As we close the month of June and look ahead to summer plans, vacations, and new beginnings, perhaps today’s feast invites us to ask:
In what ways is God calling me to be a “rock” for others in my faith community or family?
Where do I need to allow God to transform my past into purpose?
What gifts—like Peter’s leadership or Paul’s passion—am I being asked to offer?
And as a parish, let us give thanks for all those in our midst who, like Peter and Paul, dedicate their lives to building up the Church through service, witness, and love.

A Prayer for Vocations
Heavenly Father, through the intercession of Saints Peter and Paul, we ask You to bless Your Church with holy, faithful priests and religious. Stir the hearts of men and women to follow Your call with courage and generosity. May they, like Peter and Paul, proclaim the Gospel with joy and conviction. Amen.
This week, we also begin a Bible collection for Straight and Narrow, supporting individuals on the path to healing. Please consider donating a gently used or new Bible—your gift could plant seeds of faith for someone in need.
In Christ,
Fr. Matt
