Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, one of the great milestones of the Easter season. Although traditionally observed on a Thursday, our Diocese—along with many others—transfers this solemnity to Sunday to allow the wider faithful to share more fully in its richness and power.
The Ascension is not the end of Jesus’ ministry—it’s the beginning of the Church’s mission. Before ascending, Jesus gives His disciples a charge:
“Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15)
In the First Reading (Acts 1:1–11), we hear the Lord’s final words before He is lifted up. The angels gently challenge the disciples: Why are you standing there looking at the sky? The implication is clear—don’t just watch; go and witness. In the Second Reading (Ephesians 1:17–23), St. Paul reminds us that Christ now reigns in glory, above all powers and dominions, and that His power is at work in us who believe. In the Gospel (Mark 16:15–20), Jesus not only commissions the apostles—He promises to remain with them through signs, wonders, and the work of the Holy Spirit.
We are that Church today. The same call, the same promise, the same mission is given to us.

Celebrate Pentecost: International Lector Invitation
As we prepare for Pentecost, the Church’s birthday, I invite parishioners who speak languages other than English to participate as international lectors during our Pentecost Mass.
Would you like to read a passage or prayer in your native language? Contact the parish office this week. Your voice will help us echo the joy of Pentecost when all nations heard the Good News in their own tongue—a beautiful reminder of the unity and diversity within the Body of Christ.
Reflection Questions for the Week:
Let us not stand still looking to the heavens. Let us go forward with faith and fire in our hearts, knowing that the One who has ascended still walks with us and works through us. He is risen. He reigns. And He sends us.
In the joy of Christ,
