This Sunday’s readings invite us to reflect deeply on the meaning of service and the sacrifice that comes with following Christ.
In the first reading from Isaiah 53:10-11, we hear about the "Suffering Servant," a figure who endures pain and suffering for the sake of others. This prophecy points directly to Christ, who gave His life as an offering for sin, ensuring our salvation through His suffering. It's a reminder that God’s plan often involves a path of sacrifice, and it is through this that we find redemption.
In the second reading from Hebrews 4:14-16, we are comforted by the knowledge that we have a high priest in Jesus who understands our weaknesses and struggles. He sympathizes with our human condition because He too was tested in every way but remained without sin. This reading encourages us to approach God with confidence, knowing that He offers mercy and grace in our times of need.
Finally, in the Gospel of Mark 10:35-45, James and John ask Jesus for places of honor in His kingdom. Jesus gently redirects their ambition, teaching that true greatness in the Kingdom of God comes not from being served but from serving others. “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.” This message of humble service is at the heart of Christian discipleship, reminding us that we are called to put others before ourselves, just as Christ did.
Pasta Night Success!
Our Pasta Night was an incredible success! It was a joy to gather as a community, share a delicious meal, and reconnect with friends—both old and new. I want to extend a special thank you to everyone who came out to support the event and contributed to our Wayne Interfaith Food Pantry. Your generosity will make a real difference for families in need.
To all the volunteers who worked behind the scenes to make this evening possible—thank you! Your time, dedication, and hard work are greatly appreciated.
If you couldn’t make it this time, don’t worry! We look forward to seeing you at our next event. It’s always a blessing to gather together as a parish family.
As we reflect on these readings, let us remember that we are called to serve one another, just as Christ served us. May we persevere in this mission with hearts full of love and gratitude.
God bless,
Fr. Matt
