This Sunday, the Scriptures direct our hearts to the essence of our faith: love for God and love for one another. In the Gospel from Mark 12:28-34, Jesus identifies the two greatest commandments, which form the foundation of our Christian life: to love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, and to love our neighbor as ourselves. Jesus shows us that these are inseparable; our love for God is expressed through the care we extend to those around us.
The first reading from Deuteronomy 6:2-6 encourages us to love God wholeheartedly. This call to “love the Lord with all your heart, soul, and strength” reminds us that true faith involves not just belief but total dedication. Psalm 18 follows this with a declaration of trust: “I love you, Lord, my strength.” It’s a reminder that God is our foundation, supporting us in our mission to love and serve.
In Hebrews 7:23-28, we are shown Christ as our eternal high priest, who lives to intercede for us. Jesus’ sacrifice exemplifies the self-giving love we are called to emulate. His love for us gives us the courage and strength to live out His commandments fully.
Renewing Our Sacred Space
Living our faith also involves caring for our church home. Thanks to your goodness, we have made several improvements that enhance our parish community.
Recently, new lamps were installed in the parking lot to ensure safety and welcome all who come here to worship. Additionally, the IHM Shrine at the bell tower is being repainted, with Mary adorned in a beautiful dark blue color, symbolizing her strength and grace. These updates and others are made possible by your continued support through our second collection for maintenance projects. Thank you for your commitment, which allows us to preserve and beautify our parish for everyone’s benefit.
Remembering Our Saints and Faithful Departed
As we enter November, we celebrate All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day. This month encourages us to honor both those recognized by the Church and those known only to God. A meaningful tradition in the Church is dedicating a Mass intention for loved ones who have passed away. During these Masses, we lift them in prayer, naming them in the Prayer of the Faithful. If you would like to arrange a Mass intention, please visit the parish office or make a request online at www.ihmwaynenj.org/mass-card.
As we meditate on these powerful readings and remember our departed loved ones, may we be strengthened to live out the call to love more fully each day.
God bless,
Fr. Matt
