In the Gospel, Jesus speaks of signs in the heavens and the shaking of creation itself. Yet His purpose isn’t to alarm us — it’s to remind us that God’s plan is unfolding, even when the world feels uncertain or unstable. Just as the fig tree’s tender branches signal that summer is near, the signs of our times point us to the nearness of God’s Kingdom.
We live in an age when many people are anxious — about the future, the world, or even their own families. But today’s readings invite us to trust that God is faithful through every season. When everything around us seems to change, God remains the same. The prophet Daniel assures us that “those who lead the many to justice shall be like the stars forever.” Our hope isn’t built on fear of the end, but on the faithfulness of the One who promised to gather His chosen people.
As we approach the final Sundays of the Church year and prepare for Thanksgiving later this month, it’s a good time to pause and reflect on how God has been present throughout the year — in moments of joy and in challenges alike. Gratitude is one of the most powerful ways to live “ready” for the Lord — not with worry, but with awareness that every good thing is a gift from His hand.
As the liturgical year closes, may we take a moment to ask: what in my life points others to Christ? What “fruit” has my faith borne this year? Let us use these final days before Advent to give thanks, to forgive, and to renew our trust that no matter what tomorrow brings, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”
