Today, we celebrate the “Feast of the Holy Family,” reflecting on the sacredness of family life as exemplified by Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. Their unity, love, and faithfulness serve as a model for all Christian families and inspire us to cultivate these virtues in our own homes.
In the first reading from Sirach, we are reminded of the importance of honoring our parents, a practice that brings blessings and atonement for sins. This passage emphasizes the value of respect and care within the family unit.
Psalm speaks of the blessings that come to those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways, highlighting the prosperity and happiness found in a family that follows God's path.
In the second reading from Colossians, Paul encourages us to embody virtues such as compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. He calls for forgiveness and love, which bind everything together in perfect harmony, and advises families to live in peace, with Christ at the center.
The Gospel from Matthew recounts the Holy Family's flight into Egypt, illustrating their obedience to God's will and their resilience in the face of adversity. This narrative reminds us of families' challenges and the importance of trusting in God's guidance.
New Year Blessings
As we approach the end of 2024 and look forward to the New Year, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each of you for your dedication, faith, and participation in our parish community. Your commitment has been a source of strength and inspiration.
The upcoming year, “2025", has been designated as a “Jubilee Year” with the theme "Pilgrims of Hope." This Holy Year invites us to embark on a spiritual journey, deepening our faith and renewing our commitment to live as hopeful pilgrims in our daily lives. The “Mass for the Holy Year”, approved by the Holy See, will be celebrated throughout the dioceses of the United States from December 29, 2024, to December 28, 2025. This special liturgy emphasizes themes of pilgrimage and hope, encouraging us to recognize the signs of God's presence in the events of our world.
I encourage you to participate actively in the various spiritual opportunities and events that will be offered during this Jubilee Year. Let us journey together, supporting one another as we grow in faith, hope, and love.
May the Lord bless you and your families abundantly in the New Year. Let us entrust 2025 to the Holy Family's intercession, seeking their guidance and protection as we strive to emulate their virtues in our own lives.
Wishing you a blessed and joyous New Year!
In Christ's love,
